Lore & Trivia

Overview

Traits are additional passive properties attached to every hero in Anime Overload. They provide stat boosts — including damage, attack speed, critical chance, and range — that apply on top of a hero's base statistics. Traits are attached during the summoning pull and can be rerolled at the Mad Scientist NPC using Trait Reroll tokens, which are most efficiently earned through active promo codes.

Trait quality is categorised into five tiers: S (meta-defining, worth chasing), A (excellent in specific roles), B (solid placeholder), C (significant drawbacks), and D (reroll immediately). Rarity correlates loosely with tier — Secret and Mythic traits dominate the S tier — but every trait has niche applications.

Trait Quick Summary

The best trait in the game is Overloaded (Secret, ~0.002% drop rate), but its extreme rarity and one-per-team placement restriction make Nullshot (Mythic) and Voidborn (Mythic) the realistic best options for most players. If you are farming for traits, prioritize Nullshot on any crit-scaling DPS hero, then Voidborn on heroes who face shielded bosses.

S-Tier Traits — Meta-Defining

These three traits define the current competitive meta. Every serious roster should have at least one of these on its primary carry.

Overloaded

Rarity: Secret | Pity: 500 rolls | Tier: S

Core Effects:

  • Range +50%
  • Crit Chance +50%
  • Crit DMG +75%
  • SPA (attack speed) +25%
  • Deploy and upgrade costs −65%

Restriction: Only 1 unit on the entire team can have this trait per match.

Overloaded is the undisputed best trait in Anime Overload. The combination of +50% Range, +50% Crit Chance, +75% Crit DMG, and +25% attack speed creates an extraordinary damage multiplier on any unit that lands it. The −65% cost reduction is equally transformative: an Overloaded carry is dramatically cheaper to deploy and upgrade, meaning more resources flow to the rest of your team. The single-unit restriction makes hyper-carry strategies mandatory — you must choose exactly one hero to anchor your formation.

At an estimated ~0.002% drop rate with a 500-roll pity threshold, most players will never see this trait through natural summons. If you receive Overloaded on any pull, equip it on your highest-DPS hero immediately and treat it as a long-term investment.

Best on:

Nullshot

Rarity: Mythic | Pity: 400 rolls | Tier: S

Core Effects:

  • Range +25%
  • Crit Chance +40%
  • Crit DMG +50%
  • Crits stun enemies for 1 second

No placement restriction.

Nullshot is the realistic best trait for most players. It provides +40% Crit Chance and +50% Crit DMG — a direct multiplication of sustained DPS output — while the 1-second stun on every critical hit gives free crowd control without needing a dedicated control hero. The +25% Range bonus ensures your carry can reach targets earlier in the path. Crits stunning enemies also generates a brief window of safety that benefits your entire formation.

Unlike Overloaded, Nullshot has no per-team placement restriction, making it the preferred choice for multi-carry formations. Most competitive players actively farm Mythic banner pulls specifically targeting Nullshot.

Best on:

  • Strongest Alien (Burst) — his crit stacking is amplified further by the extra Crit Chance
  • Sokono (Domain) — extra crit chance boosts Bleed trigger rate on top of his passive scaling
  • Crimson Queen (Dominant) — her kill-chain passive benefits from guaranteed crits, and the stun keeps enemies alive for follow-up hits

Voidborn

Rarity: Mythic | Pity: 400 rolls | Tier: S

Core Effects:

  • Damage +20%
  • Range +5%
  • SPA +25%
  • Crits pierce all shields

No placement restriction.

Voidborn excels specifically in shield-heavy content — Double Dungeon Raids and late Infinite Mode. The +20% Damage and +25% SPA are strong raw stat boosts, but the shield-piercing mechanic is what makes Voidborn irreplaceable against bosses. Enemies in high-difficulty content frequently deploy shields that block or absorb significant portions of incoming damage; Voidborn crits bypass these shields entirely, making it arguably better than Nullshot for endgame raid content.

Best on:

  • Bald Hero (Saitama) — his Ultimate already strips shields; Voidborn crits amplify post-ultimate follow-up damage through residual shields
  • Streliana (True Maiden) — sustained DPS style pairs well with the permanent SPA boost
  • Devil Knight (Berserk) — Physical/Dark enhancer benefits from both the damage amplification and the shield pierce

A-Tier Traits — Excellent in Specific Roles

These traits are strong in particular compositions or on specific hero types, even if they do not define the overall meta.

Radiant

Rarity: Mythic | Pity: 400 rolls | Tier: A

Core Effects:

  • Damage +10%
  • Crit Chance +25%
  • Crit DMG +25%
  • DPS (damage-per-second) unit deploy/upgrade cost −20%
  • Farm unit passive income +25%

Radiant is the best trait for Farm heroes and a solid option for any DPS unit that cannot access S-tier traits. The −20% cost reduction on DPS units makes it an efficient budget option, while the +25% passive income boost on Farm heroes makes Eskanor's economic contribution significantly more impactful. On pure damage heroes, Radiant's +10% Damage is modest compared to Nullshot or Voidborn, but the Crit Chance and Crit DMG bonuses provide meaningful amplification.

Best on:

  • Eskanor — the +25% passive income boost directly compounds your economy throughout every run
  • Red Hair (Conqueror) — base 0% crit chance makes the +25% Crit Chance especially valuable
  • Crimson Queen (Dominant) — modest amplification of her kill-chain passive

Grace

Rarity: Mythic | Pity: 400 rolls | Tier: A

Core Effects:

  • Range +20%
  • Every other allied unit gains +5% to all stats (stacking up to +30%)

No placement restriction.

Grace's value scales directly with the number of buff-eligible allies on your team. At maximum stack (six units on field), every non-Grace unit gains +30% to all stats — a massive team-wide amplification that can exceed the raw output of Nullshot in sufficiently populated formations. The +20% Range bonus is a consistent quality-of-life improvement for positioning. Grace performs best in six-unit late-game rosters where the stacking bonus reaches full value; it is less effective in early-game lineups with fewer than four deployed units.

Best on:

  • Susono (Susanoo) — best-in-slot for support units; maximizes team stat amplification
  • Goju (Unlimited) — True/Magic control hero benefits from range bonus and team buffs
  • Red Hair (Conqueror) — benefits from allied stat stacking while providing strong individual output

Rift-Edge

Rarity: Mythic | Pity: 400 rolls | Tier: A

Core Effects:

  • Damage +25%
  • Range −5%
  • Boss status effect resistance +40%

Rift-Edge is a specialist pick against boss-heavy content. The +25% Damage boost is competitive with S-tier raw amplification, but the −5% Range penalty can be disruptive on long-range heroes who rely on positioning. The +40% Boss status resistance is highly situational — it reduces the duration of debuffs applied by bosses, which is valuable in Double Dungeon Raids where boss crowd control can wipe formations. For general content, Nullshot or Voidborn are almost always better choices.

Best on:

  • Bald Hero (Saitama) — the boss resistance directly complements his passive boss-killer role; range penalty is irrelevant at close-combat boss positions
  • Streliana (True Maiden) — sustained DPS with boss phases benefits from both the damage boost and resistance
  • Devil Knight (Berserk) — Physical/Bark specialist fits the boss-killer niche

B-Tier Traits — Solid Placeholders

These traits provide useful stat boosts but are clearly outclassed by S and A tiers in most scenarios.

Wisdom

Rarity: Legendary | Tier: B

Core Effects:

  • EXP (experience) gain +40%
  • Kill count +15%

Wisdom accelerates hero level progression and total kill tracking. While not a combat stat directly, the +40% EXP gain compounds over long sessions, letting your heroes reach maximum level faster and unlock their Ultimate abilities sooner. The kill count bonus is relevant for heroes whose passives scale with kills (e.g., Crimson Queen). Outside of dedicated grind sessions, Wisdom is a safe placeholder trait for any non-DPS hero you are still developing.

Best on:

  • Eskanor — farming sessions benefit from both the EXP acceleration and kill count scaling
  • Goju (Unlimited) — utility hero can level up while providing control

Thrift

Rarity: Legendary | Tier: B

Core Effects:

  • Farm unit passive income +20%
  • Attack/Heal/Buffer unit deploy/upgrade cost −10%

Thrift is the dedicated Farm-hero trait. The +20% passive income boost on Farm units (primarily Eskanor) is a direct gold and Crystal Shard multiplier that compounds across every run. The −10% cost reduction on Attack, Heal, and Buffer units is modest but useful when resources are tight. For non-Farm heroes, Thrift is strictly worse than any A or S-tier trait.

Best on:

  • Eskanor — the defining trait for the only dedicated Farm hero in the game; this is Eskanor's best-in-slot trait
  • Susono (Susanoo) — hybrid support/farm unit benefits from the cost reduction

Sharpshoot

Rarity: Legendary | Tier: B

Core Effects:

  • Range +20%

Sharpshoot is a pure positioning trait with no combat or economy upside. The +20% Range boost is useful for heroes who need to reach enemies earlier in the path, but most meta heroes already have sufficient base range. It is a functional placeholder for control and support heroes but should be replaced with Grace or Voidborn as soon as better options become available.

Best on:

C-Tier Traits — Significant Drawbacks

Blind Rage

Rarity: Legendary | Tier: C

Core Effects:

  • SPA +20%
  • Damage +5%
  • Crit Chance −10%
  • Crit DMG −10%

Blind Rage trades critical performance for raw attack speed. The Crit Chance and Crit DMG penalties are severe for any hero who relies on critical hits for damage or passive stacking. The +20% SPA boost does not compensate for the loss of crit-scaling output on most heroes. Only consider this trait on heroes with zero crit scaling in their passives.

Best on:

  • Devil Knight (Berserk) — his Berserk stacking mechanic does not rely on crits; the SPA boost amplifies his passive stacking rate
  • Streliana (True Maiden) — Code:Franxx passive does not crit-scale, making the SPA boost marginally useful

D-Tier Traits — Reroll Immediately

These three traits provide minimal stat boosts and should be rerolled as soon as any alternative is available.

TraitRarityEffectVerdict
BrutalityRareDamage +10%Reroll immediately on any DPS hero
ExtensionRareRange +12.5%Reroll immediately; too minor to be worth a slot
SurgeRareSPA +12.5%Reroll immediately; the +12.5% SPA does not offset losing a real trait

Trait Reroll Strategy

Trait rerolls are performed at the Mad Scientist NPC using Trait Reroll tokens. These tokens are most reliably obtained through active promo codes — current active codes are listed on the Anime Overload Codes page.

When to Reroll

Always reroll for your ideal trait before evolving a unit. Evolution resets a hero's stats and consumes evolution materials, but the existing trait is retained through the evolution process. This means every reroll you perform on a pre-evolution hero is an efficient use of tokens: you are locking in a permanent stat amplification before committing expensive materials.

Reroll Priority

  1. Reroll your primary DPS carry first — Nullshot or Voidborn are the realistic best-in-slot options for most players
  2. Reroll your Farm hero second — Thrift or Radiant on Eskanor provides the best economy return
  3. Reroll support heroes last — Grace is ideal for Susono and Goju, but Thrift and Sharpshoot are acceptable placeholders
  4. Never reroll a hero with Overloaded — keep it regardless of which hero receives it

Reroll Until You Hit Pity?

The Mythic trait pity is 400 rolls. If you have not hit a useful trait by roll 300–350, it is statistically advisable to continue to pity rather than resetting and trying again, since the probability of landing a useful trait in the final 50–100 rolls increases significantly.

FAQ

What is the best trait in Anime Overload?

Overloaded is the best trait in Anime Overload due to its combination of +50% Range, +50% Crit Chance, +75% Crit DMG, and +25% attack speed. However, its ~0.002% drop rate and one-per-team restriction make Nullshot the more realistic best option for most players.

Should I reroll my Overloaded trait?

Never reroll Overloaded. Keep it on any hero that receives it, regardless of the hero's tier ranking. The rarity of Overloaded means it is a permanent long-term investment.

How do I get Trait Reroll tokens?

Trait Reroll tokens are primarily obtained through active promo codes. Check the Anime Overload Codes page for the current list of redeemable codes.

Which trait is best for Eskanor?

Thrift is the best trait for Eskanor because the +20% passive income boost directly multiplies his economic contribution. Radiant (+25% income) is the second-best option if Thrift is unavailable.

How many pulls for a Mythic trait?

Mythic traits (Nullshot, Voidborn, Radiant, Grace, Rift-Edge) have a pity of 400 rolls at the Mythic summoning banner. Overloaded (Secret) has an estimated pity of 500 rolls.

Can I reroll traits on evolved heroes?

Yes, but it is not recommended. Always reroll before evolving, as evolution consumes materials and resets stats — the trait is retained, so rerolling after evolution wastes materials on a hero you may not end up keeping.
