Overview
Three finished kits is not enough roster to justify an S-through-D Strikeborn tier list, and the September 11, 2026 patch settled the argument by nerfing every airborne extension and both defensive timings at once. What remains is a fit ranking: which kit survives that patch best on your device and your patience level. The five weighted criteria below produce the bands, and two roster slots are deliberately left out of them.
Verified by RoboLibrary Editorial on September 13, 2026 at 09:00 UTC: Kit tools, M1 speed changes, and the September 2026 balance list were cross-checked against two independent recorded walkthroughs of the live build published September 11 and 12, 2026, plus independent community roster pages. Ryomen Sukuna's move list comes from roster reporting only and is labeled as reported, not confirmed.
Rank Criteria and Weighting
Five criteria, weighted to 100%, produce the bands below.
| Criterion | Weight | What It Measures |
|---|---|---|
| Threat range | 25% | How far a kit can start or continue a fight |
| Air routing | 25% | How reliably a launch converts into real damage |
| Confirm reliability | 20% | How forgiving the damage windows are |
| Mechanical demand | 15% | How much execution the kit charges for its output |
| Patch trajectory | 15% | Whether the September 2026 pass helped or hurt it |
Range and air routing carry the most weight because Strikeborn's arena is vertical: cliffs, waterfalls, wall-jump faces, and jump pads decide more fights than a damage table does. Mechanical demand is scored so that an easier kit scores higher, since a rotation you cannot execute under pressure is worth nothing in a 100-player lobby.
These weights are an editorial method, not a measured win rate. Player-count data for individual kits is not published, and the early-access population is still small enough that any win-rate claim would be noise dressed as evidence.
Complete Kit Bands
| Band | Kit | Playstyle Summary |
|---|---|---|
| S | Vessel Sorcerer | Fastest M1s of the finished kits, easiest air conversion, and the only kit whose moves upgrade into black flash at one stack |
| S | Black Swordsman | Longest reach, three guard breaking slots, and a real awakening, paid for with slower confirms |
| S | Ryomen Sukuna | Reported aggression and finisher pressure that rewards cooldown discipline, but the least verified of the three |
| Unranked | Jinchuriki | M1-only in the current build |
| Unranked | Gon | One non-M1 move added in September 2026, far short of a kit |
All three finished kits land in the same band, and that is the honest answer rather than a cop-out. With three legal picks, a five-row graphic would be inventing distinctions the footage cannot support. What separates them is what each one demands from you.
Vessel Sorcerer: The Fastest Route In
Vessel Sorcerer is the kinetic option. Its M1s are the quickest of the finished kits, slide kick confirms an air combo on hit, and cursed beatdown carries super armor and cannot be cancelled out of mid-animation.
The mechanical argument for it is the strongest single fact in this tier list: one critical stack converts divergent fist, slide kick, and the counter kick into black flash variants, and no other finished kit upgrades its moves at that threshold. Because stacks come from perfect block, perfect dodge, and finishers, a player with clean defensive timing gets a damage ceiling that the other kits simply do not have access to.
The cost is fragility. The September patch targeted air divergent fist specifically — shorter ragdoll, longer end lag, and no M1 immunity after landing — so its best aerial tool now loses to a prepared opponent in a way it did not in August.
Black Swordsman: Range and Guard Pressure
Black Swordsman trades pace for reach and authority. Ground splitter covers a wide arc with super armor, ironclad thrust is an unblockable grab, repeater now ragdolls on its final hit, and blast has enough variants to act as an escape, an approach, and a burst depending on direction.
Three of its four skill slots guard break, and this is where the kit becomes a balance problem rather than just a strong pick: perfect block cannot stop guard breaking moves. An opponent who has trained their defense around blocking has to switch to dodging to survive it, and dodging is the timing the September patch also made harder.
The kit got direct help in the same patch. M1 speed increased, repeater gained a ragdoll, and it received a new awakening move called Devastation along with space-hold and back dash variants on ironclad thrust. Its prosthetic arm back variant was nerfed, which is the only clear negative in its column.
Its real cost is execution. Confirms are slower, and nearly every slot has a direction or hold variant, so the ceiling is high and the entry fee is remembering all of them.
Ryomen Sukuna: The Least Verified Pick
Ryomen Sukuna is listed as complete by community roster trackers and is generally described as an aggressive pressure kit built around Dismantle, Fuga, and World Cutting Slash, with cooldown discipline deciding how much it gets away with.
Be careful here. The two most detailed explainer recordings available for this build cover Vessel Sorcerer and Black Swordsman move by move and do not break Sukuna down at all. Its presence in this S band rests on roster reporting rather than observed move data, so treat it as a real pick with an unreviewed kit rather than a ranked quantity.
If you main it and find the reported move list wrong, that is the correct outcome: this page would rather flag the gap than invent a moveset.
Why Two Roster Slots Stay Unranked
Jinchuriki and Gon are not D-tier characters. They are unfinished content, and ranking them would imply a comparison that does not exist.
Jinchuriki is described as M1-only in the current build, which means it lacks the skill slots the whole criteria table measures. Gon is one move further along: it received janken scissors in the September 2026 patch, a lunging attack with air and hold variants, and that hold variant reportedly breaks hyper armor at roughly 23 damage. One real move is genuine progress and still nowhere near a kit.
The select screen shows portraits for both, which is exactly how players end up spending their first three nights on a slot that has nothing to lab.
Which Kit Fits Your Device
Device support does not change damage, but it changes which kit's input burden is realistic.
PC. All three kits are playable, and Vessel Sorcerer is the recommended starting point because its confirms forgive imprecise timing. Black Swordsman is the better second main once dash canceling and direction variants are automatic.
Mobile. The September patch added lock-on, which matters most for Black Swordsman: its direction and hold variants are camera-dependent, and lock-on reduces the number of inputs competing with your thumb. Begin with Vessel Sorcerer anyway, because its fastest-in-class M1s punish thumb overlap less.
Controller. Lock-on also helps here, but the documented dead-zone problem is the one to fix first — a forward tilt during the M1 string can cancel the uppercut that launches your combo. Flatten the stick through the string, then steer in the air.
Common Mistakes With This Roster
- Treating three legal mains as a full tier list. If a graphic online shows four or more ranked fighters, it is ranking unreleased or unfinished content.
- Picking Black Swordsman first because it looks strongest. Its range advantage is real, but the confirm timing punishes new players harder than any other kit in the game.
- Blocking against guard breaking slots. Perfect block does not stop them. Dodging does, and it is a different muscle memory.
- Ignoring critical stacks. A kit that upgrades its moves at one stack and a kit that only upgrades super slam are not playing the same game, and the stack counter is visible on your own HUD.
- Building a route from August footage. Air launch into forward dash no longer extends, and super down slam lost its front dash extend.
FAQ
Is Vessel Sorcerer or Black Swordsman better in Strikeborn?
Vessel Sorcerer is better to learn on and reaches a higher ceiling once your perfect block and perfect dodge timing is clean, because one critical stack upgrades three of its moves into black flash. Black Swordsman has more range and three guard breaking slots, which punishes opponents who rely on blocking, but its slower confirms demand more execution. Both sit in the same band.
Why is Ryomen Sukuna marked as reported instead of confirmed?
The most detailed public explainers for this build cover the fist and greatsword kits move by move and skip Sukuna entirely. Its move list here comes from community roster pages, so this page labels it reported rather than presenting it as observed data.
Should I main Gon or Jinchuriki?
No, not yet. Jinchuriki is still described as M1-only, and Gon has one non-M1 move — janken scissors — which is not a kit. Both appear on the select screen with portraits, which is a presentation choice rather than a content guarantee.
What did the September 2026 update change about kit rankings?
It nerfed the defensive engine and the airborne routes together. Air launch into forward dash stopped extending combos, super down slam lost its forward dash extend, and perfect block and perfect dodge were weakened. Awakening went up 25%, and awakened-versus-awakened damage dropped to 70% on both sides, which stretches fights out and raises the value of kits that win neutral rather than off one confirm.
Do I need to buy Strikeborn to use this tier list?
Yes for now. The build is in paid early access, with entry widely reported around 400 Robux at launch. Confirm the live price on the purchase prompt before spending, and read the Strikeborn wiki hub for the free-build status.
