Overview
The Fabulous Rod sits at Stage 12 of Fisch's rod progression — the highest stage in the game alongside only a handful of others. It is not just a status symbol. Its combination of 300% base Luck, an infinite weight cap, and a passive system built around the Fabulous mutation (9.6×) and a time-based Slash Combo makes it the most technically powerful rod available for catching high-rarity and high-weight fish.
This is not a rod you buy off a merchant shelf. You earn it by reaching Level 1,000, equipping a submarine, and working through the Fabulous Deity quest chain in the Calm Zone. The quest is multi-stage, requires specific catches and items, and is the longest single acquisition goal in Fisch's rod system.
Important: The Fabulous Rod quest is confirmed to be reworked in a future update. The new version may differ significantly or become easier/harder. If you intend to obtain it, doing so before the rework is advisable.

Passive Abilities
Fabulous Mutation
Every catch has a 26% chance to apply the Fabulous mutation at 9.6× value multiplier. This is one of the highest single-mutation values in the game and is the primary income driver for the rod.
Slash Combo
The Fabulous Rod's second passive runs independently of the fish you are catching:
- Every 0.25 seconds there is a 25% chance to land a slash, granting 3% fishing progress per slash.
- After landing 3 slashes, the rod enters an enhanced state for 3 seconds: +0.2 Control, +200% Forced Progress Speed, and +200% Progress Speed.
- Effects diminish gradually as the 3-second window closes.
The key advantage of the Slash Combo is that it does not require the fish to move — progress accumulates on a timer. This makes the Fabulous Rod exceptionally reliable against endgame fish with high mobility, where other rods depend entirely on player reaction speed.
Prerequisites
Three things you need before you can even begin the quest:
- Player Level 1,000 — There is no workaround. You must earn this through catching and selling fish over time. Prioritize rods with strong luck stats and value multiplier passives to accelerate XP gain.
- Submarine ownership — The submarine is unlocked through later-stage progression. It is required to reach the Calm Zone in Mariana Veil.
- Access to Mariana Veil — This is the deepest ocean zone in Fisch, unlocked after progressing through the main ocean areas. If you have a submarine, you have access.
If you are not yet Level 1,000, focus on progressing with the best available rod for your current stage. The Fisch Rod Tier List covers every rod by stage to help you choose the fastest upgrade path.
How to Get the Fabulous Rod — Step by Step
Step 1 — Reach Level 1,000
The most time-intensive prerequisite. There is no fast pass — level comes from catching and selling fish, completing Bestiary entries, and earning XP multipliers through perfect catches and rod mastery. Use a high-Luck rod (such as the Mythical Rod or Trident Rod at Stage 5) to maximize catch value and XP per session. Enchant with Hasty to keep lure speed high.
Step 2 — Confirm Submarine Access
Make sure your submarine is built and equipped. You need it to reach Calm Zone in Mariana Veil. If you do not yet have a submarine, continue progressing through the main ocean zones until you unlock it.
Step 3 — Travel to Calm Zone
Set your spawn point or fast-travel to Mariana Veil, then navigate to the Calm Zone. This area sits within Mariana Veil and is only accessible by submarine.
Step 4 — Find the Fabulous Deity NPC
The Fabulous Deity is located on a ledge near the roof — specifically above the spot where the Ethereal Prism Rod is sold. Look upward when standing near the Ethereal Prism Rod merchant. The Fabulous Deity appears as a distinct NPC marker on this ledge.
Step 5 — Complete the Quest Chain
The Fabulous Deity assigns a multi-stage quest. Each stage requires catching specific fish and collecting particular items. The exact quest steps change with game updates — check the official Fisch Discord or fischipedia.org for the current quest step list before starting, as requirements shift between patches.
Plan for a significant time investment across multiple sessions. Bring your highest-stage rod, a full stack of matched bait, and patience.
Step 6 — Receive the Fabulous Rod
Upon completing the final quest stage, the Fabulous Rod is awarded automatically. You also receive 5,000 XP in the Rod Journal. The Golden Fabulous Rod skin becomes available in the Mastery system upon completing all associated quests.
Best Enchant Builds
Enchantment choices depend entirely on your primary activity with the Fabulous Rod.
For maximum C$ income (weight + value grinding):
Sea Overlord and Sea Prince. This combination maximizes fish weight and value output, which directly translates to the highest C$ per catch when using the Fabulous Rod's 9.6× mutation ceiling.
For control and speed (APEX hunts, difficult fish):
Herculean and Cryogenic. These two enchants work together — Cryogenic can fully stop fish movement in some scenarios, while Herculean boosts progress speed. This build requires an Exalted Relic to access. If you do not yet have one, Controlled is a solid fallback enchant.
For lava zone fishing:
Invincible. This is the only enchant that allows you to fish safely in Roslit Volcano, the Brine Pool, Scoria Reach, and Toxic Grove. The Fabulous Rod can fish in these zones by default, but without Invincible you will take damage or be unable to hold the line.
Mastery System and Rewards
Once you own the Fabulous Rod, a Mastery track becomes available in the Rod Journal. Starting Level Requirement is 1,000.
Grand Reward for completing all Fabulous Rod Mastery quests: The Golden Fabulous Rod skin — a cosmetic variant of the rod with a distinctive golden finish.
The Mastery challenges involve catching Fabulous-mutated Colossal Ethereal Dragon specimens using the Fabulous Rod. These are among the rarest fish in the game and require both the right rod and significant session time to complete.
