Search For The Needle Wiki

Search For The Needle is a cozy gap filled with one number: how fast can you clear the haystack. This wiki maps the loop, the class spin table, and the tool buy-order so the first run is not the slowest one.

Lore & Trivia
Overview
Search For The Needle turns the oldest logic puzzle — a needle in a haystack — into a stopwatch chase by Garage Games. Launched August 23, 2026, it pulled 6.3 million visits in its first two weeks. Every 20-player server hands you the same assignment: work through one giant pile of hay, uncover the needle buried below the surface, and beat your previous clear time.
The needle sits underneath the stack rather than on top, which is why the early game is about digging down, not tidying the top. Buying a bigger bag, then a Pitchfork, then Dynamite, is how you turn hours into minutes — and only about 28 in every 100 players who have ever joined a run have actually found the needle at all.
Verified by RoboLibrary Editorial on September 8, 2026: The systems, class spin rates, tool list, and stats below were cross-checked against the official Roblox experience page, in-game shop pricing, and independent community reference sites. Player-based percentages come from published badge counts and community reporting.
The Core Loop
The whole game is a six-step loop, and most players stall on the last step:
- Collect — walk to the haystack and pick up flakes with your Hand.
- Sell — take the hay to the sell point and feed it to earn Cash.
- Upgrade — spend Cash at the barn shop on a bigger bag and better tools.
- Clear — keep digging down so the needle underneath the pile becomes visible.
- Find — grab the needle once enough hay above it is gone.
- Restart — bank your Gems, see your completion time, and beat it next run.
The needle is buried inside the stack, not on top. Clearing the top layer is where all your early time goes, which is why tools matter more than raw luck.
Two Currencies: Cash vs Gems
| Currency | How you earn it | What it buys | Persists between runs? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cash | Selling hay flakes | Tools, bag size, tool upgrades | No — tools and upgrades reset each round unless you own the matching pass |
| Gems | Clearing the map, login bonuses, some code rewards | Class spins, permanent stat upgrades | Yes — carried over into the lobby |
The distinction matters more than it looks. Gems are the long-game currency: they are permanent, and they are the only way to unlock classes and permanent stat upgrades. Cash is disposable per round. That is why the beginner guide spends time on which upgrade to buy first, not just what exists. You can also earn some Gems through the active reward code.
Note on tool persistence: Without the matching permanent pass, the tools you buy and every upgrade you put on them are gone at the start of the next round. See the tools page for why four of the seven passes exist purely to keep tools between rounds.
Two Chapters
The official page calls it "one chill cozy game" and lists just the haystack. In practice there are two chapters:
| Chapter | Place | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Chapter 1 — Farmhouse | 108628039999641 | Clear the haystack and find the hidden needle |
| Chapter 2 — Basement | 83445806734780 | Escape the basement by finding the key |
Chapter 2 is where the game quietly becomes a puzzle. Badge data shows that while roughly 28 in every 100 players found the needle in Chapter 1, only a small fraction cleared Chapter 2 — and that completion badge is its own achievement.
The Playable Classes
Classes are archetypes unlocked in the lobby by spending 40 Gems per spin. Each has its own roll odds, and the odds are long. The best class, Ultimate Farmer, sits at a 0.1% chance.
| Class | Roll Chance | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | 40% | No bonus |
| Pack Mule | 25% | +50% carry capacity |
| Hay Merchant | 14% | +20% money from selling hay |
| Forkmaster | 9% | +25% hay per Pitchfork swing, −25% Pitchfork upgrade cost |
| Demolitionist | 7% | +20% Dynamite blast radius; 10% chance to split into 3 mini-charges |
| Prospector | 3.9% | Diamonds appear 50% more often; hay can turn into Diamonds |
| Drone Specialist | 1% | Always own a Drone; Drone flies 30% faster and carries 40% more; chance of a 3-drone swarm |
| Ultimate Farmer | 0.1% | Every other class bonus at once; periodic Golden Harvest |
For full roll-odds detail and which class is worth your Gems early, see the classes page.
The Tools
There are five tools — your free Hand plus four you buy in the barn shop. Each has its own upgrade list, and each targets a different part of the clearspeed problem.
| Tool | How you get it | What it does well |
|---|---|---|
| Hand | Free from the start | Baseline flake collection; upgrade grab amount and speed |
| Pitchfork | Buy in the barn shop | Clears far more hay per swing than a Hand |
| Dynamite | Buy in the barn shop | Blasts a chunk of hay at once |
| Vacuum | Buy in the barn shop | Sucks hay up quickly |
| Hay Drone | Buy in the barn shop | Carry capacity, speed, and grab range |
See the tools page for the full upgrade paths and the buy-order that gets you to the needle fastest.
Why the Passes Reveal the Rule
The shop sells seven passes totaling 943 Robux, and their names are the single best clue about how rounds work. Four of them — Permanent Pitchfork, Permanent Dynamite, Permanent Drone, and Permanent Infinite Bag — say "permanent". Reading that backwards tells you the rule: without the pass, your tools and every upgrade reset at the start of each round. The game page never explains this; the shop has to, because nobody buys a tool pass they do not understand.
The other passes are 2x Gems (39 Robux, the only one that compounds every run) and Fast Rolls (179 Robux, which reveals the game has a rolling mechanic the page never mentions).
