Coach a Fighter Leagues – OVR Requirements & Rewards

Coach a Fighter uses four leagues gated by roster-average Overall. Climbing requires depth, not one superstar, and each tier increases the rewards you earn per match. This page covers the exact OVR gates, promotion timing, NPC versus player matchups, and betting rules for each tier.
League Overview

Lore & Trivia
Coach a Fighter Leagues Overview
Coach a Fighter leagues are roster-average gates, not single-fighter achievements. Bronze opens immediately, but each subsequent league checks the average Overall of two, three, or four fighters on your active roster. That design forces you to build a team rather than pouring every resource into one card.

Fighter Roster and League Requirements
| League | Unlock Condition | Roster Size | Avg OVR Required | Reward Trend |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze | Available from start | 1+ | None | Baseline rewards |
| Second League | 2 fighters averaging 70+ Overall | 2 | 70+ | Higher than Bronze |
| Third League | 3 fighters averaging 80+ Overall | 3 | 80+ | Higher than Second |
| Fourth League | 4 fighters averaging 90+ Overall | 4 | 90+ | Highest reported rewards |
The names of the locked leagues are not confirmed in public sources, so this page uses positional labels. The OVR gates are visible in the Leagues panel and are the values that actually block progression.
Bronze Through Top League Comparison
Each league changes three things:
- Opponent strength — NPCs and player fighters scale with the league tier.
- Reward scaling — Bronze starts at +1 Real Reroll Point and +1 Legend Reroll Point per match. Advanced leagues increase both Cash and points.
- Roster demands — Higher leagues require more fighters at higher Overall, so bench depth becomes mandatory.
Public reports disagree on the exact reward values for the highest league. The table above uses verified minimums; treat higher published figures as unconfirmed until observed directly.
Roster Depth Climbing Strategy for Fighters
The fastest way to climb is to stop chasing one perfect fighter and spread training across your active roster.
- Run parallel training cycles. While one fighter trains, another can sit on the bench. The tutorial slot gives you a second fighter at no cost.
- Buy Gym Expansion early. The $100,000 Gym Expansion unlocks the ability to develop more fighters at the same time, which is what the gates actually measure.
- Move up only on consistent wins. If your main card wins half its matches in Bronze, promote after a few more upgrades, not immediately.
- Keep a Cash reserve. Losing a promoted match costs the entry fee. A reserve lets you recover without grinding from zero.
League Match Types and Betting
Within each league you can choose between NPC official matches and player-vs-player matchups. NPC matches are safer for testing new builds. Player matchups carry more risk but can pay more when your fighter is properly prepared.
Betting can multiply rewards, but it can also erase a bankroll. A common rule is to bet only what you can afford to lose in ten consecutive matches. If a fighter has fewer than ten completed training sessions, keep the bet small or skip betting entirely.
NPC Matches vs. Player Matchups
Choosing the right opponent type controls how fast you learn and how fast your Cash moves.
| Factor | NPC Official Match | Player Matchup |
|---|---|---|
| Difficulty curve | Predictable; scales with league tier | Variable; depends on opponent roster |
| Best use | Testing new builds, farming Cash, recovering from losses | Higher payouts when your fighter is prepared |
| Risk to bankroll | Lower | Higher |
| Recommended roster state | Any state, especially after a build change | Main card wins consistently in current league |
| Betting guidance | Safe to bet small or medium | Keep bets low until you understand the matchup pool |
New coaches should spend most of their first hours in NPC matches. Player matchups become attractive once you have a stable main fighter and a Cash reserve that can absorb several losses in a row. Picking the wrong match type for your roster state is a fast way to lose league progress.
Promotion Timing Checklist
Promoting fighters too early to the next league is the most common way to stall roster progression. Use this checklist before moving your team up a tier:
- Your main fighter wins at least 7 out of 10 NPC matches in the current league.
- You have enough fighters on the active roster to meet the next league OVR gate.
- Every fighter in the promotion group has completed at least ten training sessions.
- You have saved enough Cash to cover ten match entry fees in the higher league.
- You can still afford the Gym Expansion or station upgrades if the promotion does not go well.
If any box is unchecked, stay your fighters in the current league for another training cycle. The higher rewards in the next league do not help if your roster cannot win consistently.
Betting by League Tier
Betting rules stay the same across all four leagues, but the stakes grow as your fighters climb. A conservative approach keeps your bankroll healthy while your roster learns each tier.
| League | Suggested Bet Size | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | Small to none | Learning phase; test builds without risking starter Cash |
| Second League | Small once consistent | Higher entry fees; only raise bets after a winning streak |
| Third League | Medium on favorable matchups | Roster depth matters more; bet when your lineup outclasses the opponent |
| Fourth League | High only with verified matchups | Highest rewards and highest risk; avoid large bets against unknown player teams |
Never bet more than your fighters can lose in ten consecutive league matches. A losing streak in a higher league can erase the Cash needed to train your bench fighters.
Common Stuck Points and Recovery
Even with the right roster OVR, fighters often hit walls after league promotion. Here are the typical league stalls and how to recover.
Stuck at the OVR Gate
Symptom: You have one fighter at the required OVR, but the gate still will not open.
Fix: The gate checks the average across the required roster size. Train your bench fighters instead of pushing the main card higher. A second or third fighter at the gate OVR unlocks progression faster than one over-leveled card.
Cash Drain After Promoting
Symptom: You promoted, lost several matches, and now cannot afford training or entry fees.
Fix: Drop back to NPC matches in the same league, reduce or stop betting, and farm until you have a ten-match reserve. Use the Beginner Guide spending order to prioritize permanent upgrades before chasing new cards.
Losing to Player Matchups Despite High OVR
Symptom: Your roster meets the gate but loses to other players.
Fix: OVR is an average, not a guarantee of match outcome. Switch back to NPC matches and review your build distribution. A balanced stat spread often outperforms a high-OVR card with one glaring weakness.
Author Verification
Verified by Amelia Foster on August 9, 2026 at 10:05 UTC: Observed result: the in-game Leagues panel displays four leagues, with Bronze unlocked and the remaining three gated behind roster-average Overall ratings of 70+, 80+, and 90+. NPC matches and player matchups are both selectable within each league; NPC matches present a lower-risk option for testing builds. Reward values beyond the Bronze baseline are reported inconsistently between sources, so this page lists only confirmed minimums. UPDATE 2 did not introduce publicly documented changes to league OVR gates or reward structure.
