The Veil
The Veil Beginner Guide: First Day & Common Mistakes
A decision-first The Veil beginner guide: pick your first-hours route, run a first-day loop, and avoid the mistakes that cost sanity, prestige and race rerolls.
Guide Details
You spawn into a labyrinth where the thing that kills most first-hour players is not a monster — it is the Sanity bar, the night cycle, and spending race rerolls before you know what you are shopping for. The Veil, a 16-player horde PvE and PvP MMORPG from BlackstarDW Studios, released September 5, 2026 on Beta v1.0.0, so a lot of its systems are still moving. This beginner guide gives you a decision path for the first day, then a failure matrix so you stop repeating the mistakes that cost you Sanity, prestige and rerolls.

Editorial verification on September 6, 2026: I confirmed the launch date, release patch notes and the deeper system rules (Sanity drain at night, prestige gains and costs, PvP Sins, mob cap raised from 100 to 200, enchant price of 100 Silver) against the developer's official Discord statements and the launch-day patch list, then cross-checked the community-reported parts against multiple launch-day write-ups.
The First Five Minutes at Spawn
You are not locked into anything here, and that is the best news in the whole game. Do these in order:
- Spend your codes before you pick a build. Codes redeem in the in-game Shop, not the main menu — see The Veil Codes for the live list. The release-day code grants 6 race rerolls plus a party-hat cosmetic, and a second code grants 3 race rerolls — so you can shop before you commit a single run.
- Roll a race at the Stylist. The Stylist NPC sits in the spawn town and opens the race reroll screen. Race is never permanent, so your first roll is not a trap.
- Learn the safe zone. The spawn area is where you can toggle PvP and where the Stylist and enchanter live. This is your only fully safe ground.
- Take a quest and go out during the day. Day is the soft-open; night is when Sanity drains and the mob cap gets tight.
Pick Your First-Hours Route
Your first hours are not one script — they are a choice, and the wrong choice is what bankrupts new players. Here is the trade-off table so you can pick by goal:
| Route | What you do | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Safe Grind | Clear main + side quests by day, retreat before night | Low risk, learns the map and NPCs, no Sanity pressure | Slowest income; night is wasted |
| The Night Farmer | Push monster kills at night for denser drops | Fastest early loot and quest-kill progress | Sanity drains and hordes are thicker; easy to die with no restorer |
| The Prestige Racer | Chase boss kills and risky deeds for prestige | Real power growth (+50 HP per prestige) | Death costs prestige; a prestige 0 player diving deep loses everything |
Recommendation for most new players: run the Safe Grind for your first two sessions to learn combat movement and the maze layout, then switch to the Night Farmer once you carry Sanity restorers. Leave the Prestige Racer until you have a reliable weapon and know how to escape a horde — the +50 HP per prestige is real, but it only pays off if you stop dying.
The First-Day Loop, Checkpoint by Checkpoint
Treat the day as one loop with checkpoints, and bail out when one fails:
- Checkpoint 1 — town. Redeem codes, roll a race, accept every nearby side quest.
- Checkpoint 2 — day maze. Follow the objective toward the quest area, kill monsters on the way, and loot every drop that upgrades your current weapon.
- Checkpoint 3 — resource check. If your Sanity is dropping or your inventory is full, turn back. Do not push deeper because a chest is "close".
- Checkpoint 4 — bank your progress. Upgrade your best weapon, sell what you do not need, and sit on some Silver for the next enchant.
- Rollback action: if a run goes sideways at night, leave the maze, respawn in town, and spend the rest of the cycle in safe ground. Re-entering with no Sanity restorer is how beginners abandon runs.
Beginner Failure Matrix
Most early deaths and wasted progress fall into five patterns. Match your symptom to the fix:
| Symptom | Root cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Died "out of nowhere" at night | Sanity hit zero while you focused on the enemy | Watch the Sanity bar over the HP bar; exit before it is low, not when it is empty |
| Kept dying at prestige 0 | Diving deep with no prestige buffer | Stay in the safe day loop until you have a weapon and can win a boss |
| Wasted all 6 rerolls, got a bad race | Rolled without knowing what each race does | Check the race effects (re-roll targets change with patch) before spending a single reroll |
| Could not find the class trainer | Trainer locations are not confirmed yet | Ask in the official Discord help channels; this was launch day's top question |
| Silver always empty | Enchanting a weapon you will replace | Save Silver for the weapon you intend to keep; the enchant price is 100 Silver |
What Is Confirmed vs Still Unconfirmed
The Veil shipped days ago, and several things are still guesses. Knowing which is which saves you from chasing targets that are not real:
Confirmed (official channel or verified):
- Horde PvE/PvP on 16-player servers; release September 5, 2026, Beta v1.0.0
- Codes redeem in the in-game Shop, not the main menu
- Sanity drains at night (the first patch confirmed it no longer drains by day)
- Prestige: +50 HP per level, earned from boss kills, rare-item consumption and player kills; death costs prestige
- PvP defaults off, toggled in the spawn area; outlaws can still strike outside the safe zone; player kills earn Sins, which can be washed at a shrine
- Mob cap raised from 100 to 200; enchant price set to 100 Silver
Still community-reported or unknown:
- Class trainer locations (launch day's biggest open question)
- Whether classes lock to a character slot or roll, and how the summoner class is obtained
- Kharvos reset cost (the NPC who undoes an ultra class)
- Sanity recovery via campfires
- Region support (UK confirmed; Australia not working at last check)
If a guide tells you exactly where a trainer is or exactly what a reset costs, treat it as a guess until an official source confirms it.

FAQ
What should I do first in The Veil?
Redeem the codes in the in-game Shop (not the main menu), then roll a race at the Stylist NPC. The RELEASE code grants 6 race rerolls, so you can shop for a race before your first maze run.
Should I farm at night or during the day?
Day is safer and Sanity does not drain, so beginners should explore and clear quests by day. Night spawns more enemies and is better for farming, but Sanity drains and hordes are denser — only farm at night when you carry Sanity restorers and know the maze.
What costs me prestige in The Veil?
Prestige is earned from boss kills, consuming rare items, and killing players whose prestige is at or above yours. Dying costs prestige, so do not dive deep early or you lose what you built.
Why can I not find the class trainer?
Trainer locations were the single most common launch-day question and still are not confirmed. Only four class names trace to an official source, so treat the rest as community report and ask in the official Discord help channels.
Are the sanity restorers confirmed?
Campfires in the labyrinth are a community-reported Sanity recovery option, as are Sanity Potions, so treat them as guidance rather than a guaranteed mechanic.
